#7 Busta Rhyme - Extinction Level Event

For once i can't blame my lazyness and somewhat busy schedule for me not posting up my number 7. Blogger wanted to be a hater and shut down on me while i was posting up.

I chose this album because for me it was probably the height of busta's career when he was on his streak. After this album it all went crashing down like the buildings in his cover. Not alot of albums these days you can listen to from beginning to end and this was one of those albums that carried a momentum of adrenaline like no other.

From the moment you press play at the beginning he pays homage to all the heavy hitting states and shouts them out with glory as Nottz laces a hype yet soothing beat that blends well with Bustas energy. Nottz clashes another ILL beat on "Where We Are About To Take It", you cant help but bop your head up and down much like the rest of the tracks on here with production by swizz beatz and others. The theme on the cover is anarchy,destruction,apocalypse, and distaster. While not every track may be in particular about those topics, the production and overall feel you get collides with those elements.

I was 13 when this came out so at the time when i heard the album for me it was dark in its own aspects. No other artist i heard (for the ones i did at the moment) were doing anything like this, and while he might not have been the first to do a project like this his still till this day appeals over the rest in attempts for the subject. Definetly deserved a place in my top 10, and im sure like i said in my other posting previous to this it may not be the artist best album in terms of technicality and popularity but it made my list for its originality and change of feel among the other drops coming out in its moment of time.

#9 Jedi Mind Tricks - Violent By Design

Damn mega fail on my part for missing my day on posting up my number 9. A big mixture of my full time job along with side projects im working on kept me from staying on track with Poet and Kannon (who didn't slip in reminding me). With that said my apologies, and big ups to Jedi Mind Tricks for having a place in my personal list of greats!

There was a time and place where every one of us bumped this album somewhere down your lifeline if you were a fan of that RAW Hip Hop vibe. The Trio dropped this bomb on us in 2000 and still till this day you'll hear it in rotation among the hardcore listeners. Songs like "Heavenly Divine"," I against I", and "Blood Runs Cold" are among classics from the album as a whole. Jus Allah and Vinnie Paz brought the metaphysical content with violent lyrics to the table, while Stoup the enemy of mankind provided the melodic and almost melancholy like production forward to balance the weight.

My homie poet was right in terms of saying we all have diffrent views,connections, and relations to our experiences with Hip Hop music. With that said the selections that are made are the greatest in all time from our individual views of music thats impacted us in our musical tastes.

10 -DE LA SOUL -STAKES IS HIGH

De La Soul, officially was my introduction into Hip Hop and for that alone it needs to have a place in my top 10. I was about 11 years old, and had snuck into my uncles room where he stashed the Reebok and Nike shoes under his bed which contained the explicit labeled cassette tapes. I always had about 20 minutes to take one cassette out a day and listen with enough time to place the cassette back into its proper slot while remaining in its same position without being noticed. Stakes Is High was the downfall of that routine and was also the reason i got caught for mischievous behavior.

Remember clear as day pulling out that cassette tape and being fascinated with the cover thinking it was kids rapping so i pop in the tape and am easily confused at the vocals but into the right direction. Songs like Stakes is high, and Sunshine definetly were the vibe that attracted me into wanting to listen to music that wasn't so "mainstream". In a way this album matured my perspective on Hip Hop as a whole eventually effecting my life till this day. I still listen to this album and realize why there approach of messaging the decline of rap music was so pivotal to its listeners in 96. The message alone can still be applied to todays music which is still declining and rising in its own way. Stakes is high was also the introduction into Mos Def's career and lead me to follow his projects later down the road.
