Thirsty Fish - Watergate

I've been meaning to get this post up. Just been extremely busy. Thirsty fish consist of Dumbfoundead, Psychosiz and Open Mike Eagle. All three are known for different styles, but every time they've come together they've created some interesting shit. This one doesn't fail. Click the link to stream the album.

Watergate is the very latest wikileak from Dumbfoundead, Psychosiz and Open Mike Eagle, the three-headed chimera that make up Los Angeles' Thirsty Fish. While each is an established solo artist, coming together as Thirsty Fish has allowed them to indulge different sides of their personalities and explore the sounds that come out of the synergy. Featuring invited guests Busdriver and Swim Team over production by a slew of heavy hitters including Para One, Exile, Daedelus and Tokimonsta, each member is at the top of his game. The album displays all the elements that make up the Project Blowed signature. It is melodic and wity without losing any of its verbose bite. The songs are clever, the concepts relatable, the hooks embed in your brain, and the lyricism does not disappoint. Watergate proves that not only is hip-hop alive and well, it's Thirsty, in the form of Open Mike Eagle, Psychosiz and Dumbfoundead.

M.E.R.C. & DJ A to the L - Daylight Maruaders

Few years back THE ARE released a tribute project to Tribe Called Quest, in which they re worked all the samples and made a fresh instrumental project all inspired by the chops from Tribes Midnight Marauders. Fast forward to the present time, and here is M.E.R.C. & DJ A to the L of Tallahassee, FL, dropping a similar project equipped with M.E.R.C. verses.

“With Daylight Marauders we wanted to show people that Hiphop in Tallahassee and Florida, is not just about the stereotypical 76 beats per minute southern tracks, or uptempo bass tracks”, M.E.R.C. continues. “There is a real hip-hop scene here, with talented artists who work hard to release quality music, and appreciate the history and culture of hip-hop.” The Daylight Marauders mixtape is consistent throughout and my favourite track is “8 Million Stories”. They even rapped over The ARE’s “Lyrics To Stay” off Manipulated Marauders to bring it full circle.

"1995/1996 remastered demo from unknown Bronx duo called the Midnight Eez..any further info on this pair get in touch!

So this is how the story goes.. A long long time ago in a galaxy far away, that is to say pre-internet, 1995 or 1996 to be not very exact, All City co-founder Splyce found himself on one of his regular record buying sojourns to New York. Approached outside the Fat Beats store by two guys who had heard he was a DJ from out of town and were eager to spread word of their production work outside their homeland, he was given a mix tape demo of their beats. Named The Midnight Eez, from the Bronx, they were one of thousands of budding production units on Manhattan Island. The tape came only with a name and pager number, which hardly surprisingly now goes unanswered in 2011, but after relocating that same tape in a recent house move, in the spirit of musical altruism we have decided to give it the proper vinyl release it deserves. Hopefully this release will see The Midnite Eez them get some belated but deserved shine. Tracklisting is precisely as per the original cassette, with 30 minutes of hip hop music over the two sides.."

I just got back from a Las Vegas vacation and I get home to find this in the inbox. On one complete listen, I AM BAFFLED. This is the shit. But it's sooo good that I'm hesitant in believing the back story. It does come off very 90's dusty boom bapish. & I understand they're claiming the remastering and pressing up of it...but this seems very well put together for a tape to vinyl remasterization. Either way, This is fucking awesome and if the story holds any truth....it's and incredible find and hopefully the duo can get in contact or come forward. Be sure to check it out.
