Heaven Razah aka Hell Razah - Back Again (+ new Mixtape)

Like most, my first introduction to Hell Razah came in the form of Sonz of Man's The Last Shall Be First. Those that have known me over the years, would tell you, that there has probably been no artist in that time frame that I've followed more closely. In 2010, Razah, fell into a coma due to a brain aneurysm. Shortly after, his transformation into Heaven Razah was released in the form of a Self Titled album. The name change and overall feel of the album was a huge shock in that it was finished pre coma. Some of the songs seemed like Razah was almost aware that his life could be tested soon. Now nearing the end of 2011, Razah has since began his journey into recovery. He had to relearn how to walk & talk all over again. Last month he and RA the Rugged Man put out visuals to Return Of The Renaissance. A task proven difficult with Razah still in the middle of his recovery at home. I'm happy to see that he's doing a lot better and shockingly after less than a year of recovery is already working on the follow up to Heaven Razah. Also, he's just put out a new mixtape that is comprised of some leftovers from Heaven Razah 1 sessions and a few other gems featuring the likes of; Killah Priest, Grand Puba, his new group Black W.A.S.P. and even his son Kappo. Milk Crate's Top 10 Albums: That Bullet Proof Saint #7

If I had to pick a group or sound that I tend to gravitate towards, that sound would hands down be the dirty/soulful sound coming out of RZA's ASR and 4 track. But some where around 01 maybe 02, we all saw the drastic decline in the Wu. Some new generation cats came out that breathed some life into it (Bronze Nazareth), but overall The Clan & its affiliates were struggling to stay relevant. This brings me to my #7 pick for my personal top 10 favorite and most impactful albums. This is the most recent album that I have in my top 10. I'm confident in putting in here because of the sheer fact of it's replay value to me. So with out further ado.....







#7 BlueSkyBlackDeath & Hell Razah - Razah's Ladder


Hell Razah has always been one of the more underrated emcees. Even back in the Sunz of Man days I always felt like he was over looked for Priest. I'd always end up rewinding his verses on songs like "one step" and "tai chi". At the time of this release a lot of the affiliates that I grew up following had grown stagnant. It took two white boys from the west to awaken the giant (I do give a lot of credit to Bronze as well). Blue Sky Black Death, for me, kinda came out of no where. They found a way to not only mimic that old wu style of production but take it to the next level. On songs like "Halos" "Pray Together & "Most Merciful" showed just that, a sound scape reminiscent to the old sound, while still advancing the sound with inventive layering and instrumentation. Since it's release in 2007, I don't think there has been two months that goes by with out me listening to this record at least once from front to back. I'd even go as far as saying that I've probably listened to this album more than at least a couple of the records that will fill out the rest of my top 10.
