SL Jones & DJ Burn One - Paraphernalia (Album)

I was out of town on buisness all of last week so, I'm once again gonna be playing catch up through out the week...but first thing first.... SL Jones and DJ Burn One put out an awesome joint project that you all need to hear. Be sure to grab this's free.

Earlier this year, SL Jones and DJ Burn One made plans to put out a six-song EP. A few months, and countless late-night sessions at DJ Burn One's Five Points studio, later, the Little Rock rapper and Atlanta producer emerged with a 12-track, full-length effort that both agree is their strongest, most cohesive work-to-date. "Before we started recording," recalls SL, "we sat down and talked about the direction of the music - we really established a vibe. We didn't want Paraphernalia to sound like a bunch of thrown together songs; we wanted to give listeners an experience."

And so, in many ways, Paraphernalia is about bucking industry trends, about two artists getting together to make a raw, unapologetic collection of music that reflects the music that they enjoy. Part of that process, they say, was working to make sure that, from start to finish, Paraphernalia was a collaborative effort. "This is the first time I've really been produced as an artist," says SL, noting that he's largely pulled from a variety of producers with previous mixtapes. "Instead of email and beat CD's, we got in there - Burn, me, and his band, iNDEED - and created everything from scratch."

And while that collaborative process has paid dividends, Jones also cites a level of personal and artistic progression that has allowed this new tape to really become something special. "For me, lyrically, I've always been able to maneuver on different styles of production, but my presence on the track is really improving," says SL. "Rather than just trying to kill every beat, I'm matching my presence to the feel of the record - it's allowed me to get my point across, which is important now more than ever."

Trackstar The DJ – Out Of The Darkness: The Best Of Organized Noize (Hosted By Big Rube)

Trackstar the DJ put together a pretty enjoyable mix of some of the highlights of the Dungeon Family's career. I'm sure we could all bitch and moan about what was left out, which is pretty easy to do when we're dealing with a "best of" from such a stellar group of artist. But nevertheless this is a heavily enjoyable mix that everyone good get down with.

Steady Bloggin’ Presents: Space Age Soul

The homie Driz from Steady Bloggin' went ahead and put together a pretty awesome mix of some new aged soul/funk/jazz heat. Be sure to check it out.

My concept for this compilation was very loose – modern music bearing influences of classic soul, funk or jazz; combined with tangible or intangible touches space-age futurism. The only significant restrictive caveats were ‘no rap’ and ‘nothing made more than 10 years ago’. Which gave me a wide range to play with, and so I ended up with a rather varied assortment spread from psychedelic soul to minimalist dub experiments to jazz space operas to bouncy midtempo synth-funk. I did my best to mold it all into some sort of cohesion, and it worked. Kinda.

Some of these songs have been posted here before. Most are fairly obscure, which was a purposeful choice; a few more known exceptions were too good to pass up. I annotated the track list with some notes in case anyone is interested, you can find that below the jump. The whole thing can be streamed via the Bandcamp widget. Enjoy.

1. Wilder Zoby – Contagious
2. Levek – Look On The Bright Side
3. Fiber – Dust
4. BADBADNOTGOOD – Flashing Lights
5. Ari Roze – Rolling With The Dub
6. Mara TK – Run (away from the valley of fear)
7. Sonny Coates x Shafiq Husayn – mjrhe∆vy !!!!!!!!!!!!_! (*)
8. Thundercat – For Love I Come
9. Nite Funk (Dam-Funk & Nite Jewel) – Am I Gonna Make It

Killer Mike & EL P - R.A.P. Music (Album Stream + Bigga Track Breakdowns)

Killer Mike & El - P are gearing up (May 15th) to release on of the most anticipated albums in a LONG TIME. But before it's made available for purchase, SPIN, Mike, & El Producto have decided to let you jump right in and hear it in its entirety. Off first play this is an absolute end to end burner (pun very much intended) in that early 90's fashion. The old heads remember those days. Before the CD was the go to product. Back when we all had that good old tape deck ,so artist had to create an album with the intentions of every song tying into each other. We were more inclined to listen to a new album from front to back, that rewind/fast forward button would kill the vibe and your battery pretty damn fast. This shit goes hard from the beginning and doesn't let up until that final synth note.

Along with being able to stream the project Bigga also drops breakdowns of each song.

Be sure to preoder this HERE

Vince Staples & Michael Uzowuru - Champagne Wishlist

Seems like these dudes have already put out enough loosies to make up an entire LP, yet we've yet to hear anything about a full length from the duo. But judging by the body of evidence they've been putting out we can probably come to the conclusion that it would be pretty fucking awesome.

Thelonious Martin - Colors (Beat Tape)

Thelonious Martin is back (yes already) with another chop heavy banger.

Big K.R.I.T. - Bonus Cuts from KRIT WUZ HERE

So as it turns out when K.R.I.T.Re-Releases (May 15th?) K.R.I.T. Wuz Here & Return of 4Eva there will be a few bonus cuts that were left on the cutting room floor the first time around. Here goes a few from back when KRIT Wuz Here was released.

ScHoolboy Q & TiRon – Love Me Not (Prod. Chuck Inglish)

I'm still playing catch up over here due to busy week. But here goes a Collaboration between two Left Coast spitters; Schoolboy Q & TiRon over the simple/thump heavy sound-scape from Chuck Inglish. Pretty fucking fresh. A joint project of this trio would be pretty fucking dope, if you ask me.

King Fantastic - G Sharp (Single)

Killer Reese is back in the form of this new single which will be featured on the up coming (May 8th) SocioPoliticalPimpTalk EP. You can buy the track Here.

Meek Mill - Burn (Ft Big Sean)

I'm personally not posting all of these G.O.O.D. Friday releases because honestly, only a third of them are worth posting. The appeal of Big Sean is wild to me. He's at best hit or miss. But this is getting posted because MMG's Meek Mill's absolutely bodies this.

Dope new joint from Ab-Soul from his upcoming album Control System, dropping May 11th. Rest In Peace Alori Joh.

DJ Burn One Presents: KD - Crown Me (Album)

The wait is OVER! This has been one of the album's I've personally been anticipating for the longest time. Having already had the opportunity to give it a few spins through, I must say it hasn't disappointed at all. Everything you'd expect from a KD record....and for those that are unfamiliar with the Bamma Native. That includes some laid back soulful southern bangers to outline his just as soulful yet aggressive delivery.
