OG Ron C takes the reigns from Drizzy, and chops up the OVO front man's latest offering. If you frequent Drake's website, you'll notice that almost every time he (or The Weeknd) drops off a new song for the world, OG Ron C is right there with a chopped & screwed version. This one includes all 17 songs, both interludes, and the two iTunes bonus joints. So, if you're into this kinda stuff (like I am from time to time), grab this free download, and enjoy the now over 2-hour long album from Drake...
Like most, my first introduction to Hell Razah came in the form of Sonz of Man's The Last Shall Be First. Those that have known me over the years, would tell you, that there has probably been no artist in that time frame that I've followed more closely. In 2010, Razah, fell into a coma due to a brain aneurysm. Shortly after, his transformation into Heaven Razah was released in the form of a Self Titled album. The name change and overall feel of the album was a huge shock in that it was finished pre coma. Some of the songs seemed like Razah was almost aware that his life could be tested soon. Now nearing the end of 2011, Razah has since began his journey into recovery. He had to relearn how to walk & talk all over again. Last month he and RA the Rugged Man put out visuals to Return Of The Renaissance. A task proven difficult with Razah still in the middle of his recovery at home. I'm happy to see that he's doing a lot better and shockingly after less than a year of recovery is already working on the follow up to Heaven Razah. Also, he's just put out a new mixtape that is comprised of some leftovers from Heaven Razah 1 sessions and a few other gems featuring the likes of; Killah Priest, Grand Puba, his new group Black W.A.S.P. and even his son Kappo. All Proceeds will be going to his family in the much needed aid to help lessen the financial blow that his medical treatments have incurred. Purchase Razah RebornHere.
Also, Not on the tape, is the new track Back Again. Incredible the journey this man has been able to persevere through.
Danny Brown drops some new visuals to "Blunt After Blunt" which so happens to be my favorite song from his XXX album. Surprisingly this video co-directed by Asap Rocky.
On Thanksgiving, I finally decided to listen to the new Action Bronson & Statik Selektah album, Well Done. And then I listened to it again. And then once more. Yeah, It's kinda good.
New tape from C Plus. I havent heard anything from this one, but I can tell you that his last tape, All C.I.T.Y. was dope as shit. So lets download this one right now, and we can listen together.
Odd Future continues to grow on me more and more as a collective. At first, I could only stomach listening to Tyler. But that was mainly because I was too busy judging the shit out of the music. But the more I listened, the more I liked Hodgy, Mike G, Earl and Domo. I also dig Syd and Frank, but I kinda put them in a different category. But word. This is Mike G's new EP, featuring production by Syd, Hodgy Beats and more. So grab it below, and give it a couple hundred spins...
Another one of my favorite up and comers, releases his latest tape. Willie the Kid has long ago stepped out his brothers shadow and carved a niche out for himself. This tape is pretty fucking awesome, so don't sleep.
Years ago, Ohno mentioned to me he was doing an album with Alchemist. I thought it was a interesting combination, but didn't hear anything come of it for what seemed like another two years. But when they finally released Gutter Water we all finally saw how awesome they could work together. Now their really on a roll. They've consistently put out dope product since the first release. Now they're gearing up to release Vodka & Ayanuaska on Jan 24th, and with that they've decided to put out the first single; Dump Truck which features Prodigy.
I feel like I've been bigging up this dude till I'm blue in the face, for well over a year now. Glad to see he's finally getting some shine that he deserves. You ask me, he's easily the best new cat around. Take Notice. Grab his Watching the Throne tape, because it's fucking awesome.
Juan Deuce & Falside put out this EP a few days back and I was too busy to get it up. But after getting the chance to play it a few times, I must say that this shit is impressive. The duo really are able to compliment each other. Album stream below, then download it. Trust.
Blackstar is back. Not sure if that statement holds as much weight as it once would have. But it's good to know that at least it is in the works. I'm probably more geeked to know both these single are coming with production to a couple Ox reps that I grew up around.....You Already Knew is produced by Ohno and is said to be apart of an upcoming Aretha Franklin tribute tape the duo is planning on releasing. Fix Up (produced by Madlib) is to be on the actual album.
The Jazz trio from Toronto gained a bit of internet fame earlier in the year when they did a session of instrumental interpretations of music by Tyler, The Creator. Not too long after that, Tyler met up with the trio and recorded a quick session live to post to youtube. Now theyre releasing their debut long play covering some of hip hop's classics, and a few new ones too. So if you enjoy some dope hip hop/jazz fusion, do not sleep on these kids... Oh, and check all the way below for a video of them performing "She" from Tyler's album, Goblin.
If I'm being completely honest, I downloaded OnCue's last project, Cuey Sings The Blues, and it didnt blow me away. But I am kind of in love with his latest single, "Feel Tall." So here is OnCue's latest offering, Can't Wait.
1. Headlights (prod. Chanes) 2. Running (prod. CJ Luzi & Matt Grover) 3. The Geoffrey (prod. CJ Luzi) 4. All the Way (prod. manicanparty & CJ Luzi) 5. Cigarettes and Perfume (feat. manicanparty) (prod. manicanparty) 6. Better Than Before (prod. CJ Luzi) 7. Can't Wait (prod. CJ Luzi & EM Ricchini) 8. Feel Tall (prod. CJ Luzi) 9. Don't Fall for That (feat. Sonny Shotz) (prod. Justin W.) 10. Only Thing We Know (prod. CJ Luzi) 11. Not For Nothing (prod. CJ Luzi) 12. Kinda Late (feat. Mike Posner) (prod. 88-Keys) 13. Make It All Work (prod. CJ Luzi) 14. Selfish (prod. CJ Luzi) 15. Alive (prod. manicanparty & CJ Luzi)
I dont know much about Rittz. But I know the first two times I heard him, I said to myself, "This guy is ok..." but I never quite got around to downloading his mixtape, White Jesus. After hearing this new joint... I dont know what it is. There's just something haunting (in a good way) about the barely-there beat, with his flow over the top of it... I'm going to go find that mixtape right now...
(If you want it as well, it's here: Rittz - White Jesus. Also, Poet posted the video for this song back Here.)
Madlib jumps on the boards while Gangsta Gibbs grabs the mic on this new joint from their joint EP(ish) entitled, Thuggin'. I call it an EP(ish) because its really only 2 songs (with instrumentals), and 2 bonus beats. But either way, It's available now in vinyl, or as an mp3 download, so head over to Stones Throw to support...
New video from one of my favorite non hip hop albums of the year. And did you guys see her on SNL the other week? I dont know, there's just something dark about her music, and seeing her perform it while cheesing from ear to ear just seemed weird to me haha. But anyways, this shits dope, so peep game. And if you like it, go support by copping her new album, Ceremonials.
...And the award for worst album cover of all time goes to!... Yeah, I hate it too. And I hated Lasers. And blah blah, it all makes me so sad because I truly loved Food & Liquor and The Cool. But either way, I'm gonna give him another shot. Lupe is back with a new mixtape entitled Friend Of The People. Featuring 12 brand new tracks, which most look like theyre produced by electro groups. Which makes me a little hesitant. But whatever. If this one sucks too, Lupe, you only get one more shot...
I dropped the song a couple weeks ago, and now the two Maybach front runners are here to drop off the video. I guess the reason this didn't make Wale's album, Ambition, is because they were saving it for the upcoming MMG compilation, Self Made Vol. 2.
Toronto and XO(weeknd & dropxlife) representative Khat drops another video. For those not familiar check the back catalog. He's extremely hit and miss with me. He has some eye opening shit, then will jump into the more Dubstep type of sound...which I loathe. Grab all three albums below and draw your own conclusions. Also check out the above video (he pretty much makes a vid for every song) and the rest here.
The first time I heard of Ryshon Jones was actually on this site (see even we find new shit from eachother), Kannon posted his single Desire & then his Friday EP. First thing I noticed is that he sampled The Weeknd a good deal. He's been on a tear as of late, damn near letting a single go a day. And each one has damn near been better than the last. Check out a few of them. His Brightest Nights Darkest Days is due out Dec. 23rd and I'm officially excited for it.
Common just sounds more at home over a smokey jazz band type of sound. So with him teaming up with bassist/producer Derrick Hodge it really sparked my interest. No let down here. This will be featured on Derrick's upcoming album, with the same title. As for Common, his The Dreamer, The Believer, is due out Dec. 20th.
There's been a few leaks from this tape that i've heard and somewhat liked. Kind of a weird style to be a "9th Wonder protegee"....but there is definitely some talent there. The Kendrick Lamar track is what caught my attention....check that out...then give the tape a spin.
Always liked when KNO did more of a R&B production style. So when I saw that he's done a remix for Detroit based Singer JMSN it caught my attention. This is pretty damn dope. Expect JMSN's album †Priscilla† to drop 01.11.12.
Schoolboy Q drops another solid track. No clue when his next project (#HNC) is due out....but i'm told soon. He's consistently been putting out heaters...so anticipation is high right now.
Duck Down's latest signee, David Dallas, links up with Buckshot for the latest single from his album, The Rose Tint. The deluxe edition was just released on iTunes and in stores last week, so if you havent heard the album yet, go support and enjoy some incredibly dope music. One of my favorite albums of the year.
Jerreau has one of the simplest styles I've heard in a long time. And yet, there is something about that elegant simplicity that makes his music so dope.
Nacho Picasso & Blue Sky Black Death continue the quality with quantity streak with yet another dope video from his For the Glory album. Expect another collaborative album between these dudes to be released very early next year, and a new song/video out sometime next week.
Joey B, lets loose a new Klasix produced banger. Some may recognize the sample. Yes, it was also on Brother Ali's Picket Fence . But delve a little deeper. It's from a beautiful Lou Bond track called To the Establishment off of one of my favorite records ever....(Self Titled).
Also since I was slacking....here goes another Joe Budden single that leaked last week. This one is with Summer Leather Vest. With all these new tracks, i'm assuming his latest project is inching closer to release. We'll see.
So a while back Big Sean was on RapFix with Sway and was quoted saying.
"With the super duper flow, I created that one word rhyme style," Big Sean said in an interview. "Drake really made it more popular, but Drake gave me the credit and was like, 'I really got that from Big Sean.' I think some artists just did it so wack man. Every time I say names I get in trouble and it's like I'm dissing, but some people used it wack. Don't get it wrong I'm not trying to dis Ludacris or nothing. He's a great MC. But even though that style got so overused, there was a lot of people who did it great and there was a lot of people who didn't do it so great. People always ask me was you mad that people took that style from you. I'm like, 'Nah, that went and shows me how far I can go as an artist.' I feel like I changed hip-hop. I haven't even dropped an album yet. So that goes to show me how powerful my mind is.'"
Well, shit, Luda had to go in on that. Luda just spazzed.
Murs and Ski Beatz drop off their latest offering from their collaborative album, Love And Rockets Vol. 1, which is available now. And I must say, I JUST got around to listening to this album today, and it has some serious heat on there. Do not sleep on it...
Nicolay is one of my favorite producers of all time. OF ALL TIME. This EP is from... Well, I'll just let him explain it...
+FE Music proudly presents the "Shibuya Session EP", a collaboration between Nicolay and the Raleigh-based exploratory jazz trio The Hot At Nights, led by 8-string guitar virtuoso (and The Foreign Exchange guitarist) Chris Boerner with Matt Douglas on sax/woodwinds and Nick Baglio on drums.
The EP was recorded at Sound Pure Studios in Durham NC and features new interpretations and arrangements of eight instrumental compositions from Nicolay's 2009 album "City Lights Vol. 2: Shibuya".
Before Asher drops off his sophomore album, Is This Too Orange?, he's gonna give us one more mixtape for free. This is the first "single" from his upcoming joint with Blended Babies, entitled, Pabst & Jazz. And honestly, I dig this Asher sooooo much more than "Last Man Standing" Asher.
The man behind a lot of J. Cole's early production steps to the front of the stage, to bring us his brand new mixtape, Awaken. This one features Cole, Voli and Omen... So it's pretty much all in house. But word, at the very least, Elite is stupid dope with production, so check it out for that...
01. Intro 02. Awaken [prod. Voli] 03. World Premiere (ft. J. Cole) 04. Imagination Day (ft. Sean McVerry) 05. Gone [prod. Voli] 06. Last Round [prod. Alchemist] 07. Everybody But Me 08. Lonely Lady 09. Driftin Away 10. Lock Down [prod. Voli] 11. Cycles [prod. J. Cole] 12. One Night 13. Crabs in a Bucket 14. Invisible 15. Ellis Island (ft. Voli) [prod. Voli & Gavidia] 16. Closer (ft. Omen, Peace) 17. Down the Line
So, I've been listening to this podcast ever since Jensen decided to stab the Rosenthal's in the back, and walk away from the best podcast to ever exist, and start his own podcast. But today has been the first Tuesday that I havent been at work, and have been able to listen along live with the show. So I decided to take to twitter, and throw my 2 cents in a few times. So when you hear Jensen in this episode saying "MAN, THE MILK CRATE IS KILLING IT TODAY. YOU SHOULD JUST COME BE ON THE SHOW." Yeah, thats because I'm the illest...
Nov 8, 2011 - Comedian/writer Paul Scheer joins Jensen on his 32nd birthday to talk about NTSF, The League, Drake, The Best Show, making an Oprah picture a meme, X-Statix, Justin Bieber's Little Drummer Boy, The New Frontier, Kenna, BBC, InstantWatcher, how we're late on Billy Eichner & Ed Brubaker and many other things you'll need to know about.
After dropping 7 tracks a couple weeks ago, one day after the next, Nickelus F hits us with his brand new full project, Faces. Quit sleeping on this guy, and step your listening game up.
01. Carl Lewis 02. Celestial 03. Scrunchy Face 04. Valley Of Kings 05. Champion 06. Priceless 07. Balconies 08. Handsome 09. Faithful 10. Time & Hope 11. Slow It Down 12. Thug On 13. Praise The 808's 14. No Hamburger 15. Sky High 16. Misunderstood 17. Playin' With Fire
Stalley drops a new video to celebrate the re-release of his album Lincoln Way Nights, which was digitally remastered by Young Guru, and is available online and in stores today with 4 new joints.
I'd like to turn in 6 late passes on this one. This video came out back in February, before this blog even existed, but I just discovered it right now. The only other time I'd heard Fat Tony was on my favorite song off Das Racist's second mixtape, Sit Down Man, entitled, "Luv It Mayne." And even that song was originally a Fat Tony song. But anyways, this song above is stupid dope, and the video is awesome too. If you wanna enjoy some more Fat Tony music, head over to his bandcamp page to stream/purchase his album from last year, Rabdargab.
Some new NY shit, this time from Queens featuring Cody B. Ware, Prince SAMO, Jeff Donna and trio Children Of The Night as World's Fair. They all get on Company Flow's - 8 Steps to Pefection. Video coming soon.
I dont know who these guys are, or where they came from or anything important. All I know is that their video had half naked chicks in it, so I hit play. What I didnt expect, was that I really liked the music. So here is a little 5 track EP. And I will agree that they do some genre bending, so expect some live drums, guitar riffs, singing and rapping all on the same track. Download below, and watch their Not-Really-Safe-For-Work video for "F*ck Your Brains Out" below that...
I introduced you to the Odd Future duo a few days ago, and theyre already back with a new joint. This one is called Cocain, and features MellowHype producer, Left Brain. The Internet's album, PurpleNakedLadies comes out this December.
So apparently Red Bull held some type of beat battle competition last year, in which the winner would get to produce a song for any artist of his choosing. 14KT won that competition, and the artist he chose to work with was Bun B. This is the final result of that collaboration...
The Jazz/Hip Hop collective ArtOfficial is gearing up to release their new album, Vitamins & Minerals tomorrow, you can stream the album in its entirety today. So check it out below. Some stand out tracks to me are "Three Four," and "Migraine."
Weather out here in So Cal, is pretty fucking beautiful right now. Naturally the music that's coming through my system right now is reflecting that. DJ Jazzy Jeff's 2002 The Magnificent was an underrated & under appreciated release that captured a mood from the beginning & held you there till the end. Here goes a few of my favorite cuts off of that record. If you don't have it in your possession I'd suggest you get on that shit.
K.R.I.T. is having a phenomenal year. From his own works, to now being one of the, go to producers of the heavy-hitters in the south. It seemed like, as soon as TIP got released he called on K.R.I.T. to handle the production on his first single....and it didn't disappoint. I'm Flexin' come's off like vintage Trap Muzik from his earlier days. Really looking forward to what both these artist have in store in the near future.
DTMD released one of my favorite albums this year, Makin' Dollas. And in celebration of the success of their debut album, they decided to let young Seattle beatsmith Def Dee take a crack at Remixing one of the more popular songs on the record, The Flame. Mello Music Group is really on a tear this year. And what's even more staggering is that they've managed to keep pretty much everything in house. From top to bottom all their projects and ventures are done under the MMG umbrella. Really excited to see what the future holds for the label.
Producer REL!G!ON, links up with Planet Asia, Ras Kass, Torae & Jasiri X , to form a poor man's Slaughterhouse.
On "Classical Music", REL!G!ON reached out to his four favorite emcees - Ras Kass, Planet Asia, Jasiri X and Torae - and created a fictitious rap super group called the "Dangerous Alliance" based on the famous sports entertainment wrestling stable of the same name. "Hearing these four rappers together is a dream. When I was younger I would imagine rap superstar stables, guys that I thought would sound nice together. I do the same thing with wrestlers, it's very serious for me," says REL!G!ON. He sent the instrumental first to Ras Kass' people, then sent that edit to Torae's people, then Planet Asia jumped on, followed by Jasiri X. The result is "Classical Music", four of the hardest lyricists over a REL!G!ON beat that he says he uses to secure victory in beat battles. "I would love it if these guys would join together and form a supergroup. I would produce that in a second. They all have their own style but the one thing they have in common is hard ass lyrics! I'm going to try and make that happen", says REL!G!ON. "Classical Music" (The Dangerous Alliance edit) is featured on REL!G!ON'S soon to be released album called REL!GULOUS through Wandering Worx Music.
The Siren of Young Money, Shanelle, Yes the bitch with the stupid piercings, drops a new single with Drake & Wayne(someone's trying to get some attention). Pretty cool cut with production from Cool & Dre.
Gerald Walker drops a freebie. Aside from the soundbite and singing this is pretty fucking dope. Look for Walker to be dropping a seasonal greetings album Nov 17th.
